The Answers

#1 DePaul Club Tennis? What the hell is that?

DePaul Club Tennis is a DePaul University student organization devoted to providing the student population with the opportunity to play tennis year-round in both competitive and recreational settings. We allow students to practice, compete, and network with other like-minded tennis enthusiasts on campus.

#2 So, why should I join? Do I have to try-out?

Club Tennis is open to any and all undergrads, graduate students, and tennis appreciators enrolled at DePaul University. Alumni and staff are welcome to attend our practices, but won't be considered official members of the club. Everyone who attends practice is responsible for paying any applicable membership dues for the quarter in which they participate. Try-outs are only required to be part of our competitive travel team. For more information regarding travel team try-outs, please contact Head Coach Jon Mulvey.

#3 I'm a poor college student. Like, seriously, Chicago is expensive. How much does this thing cost and what do I get if I decide to join and pay the dues?

We feel your pain. A lot of us work part or full-time jobs to help pay for school. Dues for the fall quarter of 2016 will be $50 and will help the club cover its major costs-- mainly court time at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness. In return for your dues, you will receive access to 10 weeks of indoor practices at Lakeshore along with a fancy club t-shirt. It's worth it.

#4 What do you mean by "practices"? Do I have to have played tennis before or will you guys teach me how to play?

DePaul Club Tennis is tailored to those who have at least some experience playing tennis. Most of our club members played on their high school teams and almost all of our travel team members played USTA junior tournaments growing up. While we accept anyone willing to play, club practices consist mostly of drills, games, and match play. Next to no emphasis is placed on teaching basic techniques. Some of our travel team members do offer private lessons on an individual basis. If you're interested in taking lessons from one of our travel team members, please contact Head Coach Jon Mulvey.

#5 How can I stay informed about all of your club tennis-type events and things? Are you on Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? Do you have an email mailing list?

Yes! While the best way to stay up-to-date is to regularly check depaulclubtennis.org, we do have pages on both Facebook (link), Twitter (link), and Instagram (link) where updates are also posted. Our club mailing list allows you to receive updates on events and practice reminders directly to your inbox. Please contact Head Coach Jon Mulvey to sign-up.

#6 I'm a rich businessperson and/or DePaul University alumni who enjoys playing and/or watching tennis. Can I make a donation and/or sponsor your team?

Yes! Donations made to the club are tax free and absolutely welcome any time throughout the year. Full sponsorship opportunities are also available. Please contact Head Coach Jon Mulvey if you are interested in making a donation or becoming a sponsor.

#7 My strings broke and I'm REALLY lazy. Where can I re-string my racquet? Can the club do it for me?

Yes! DePaul students, staff, and alumni can have their racquets re-strung for as little as $10 by any one of our vastly experienced stringers. You won't find a better deal anywhere in Chicago. After covering the cost of string, all money is reinvested back into the club. Contact Jon Mulvey if you're interested in using our stringing service.

#8 You guys have some snazzy-looking gear. I've seen it around campus. Where can I get my hands on it?

All club members receive a free club t-shirt as part of their club dues. Non-members can buy the club t-shirt for $10. As with our stringing service, all profits from merchandise sales are reinvested back into the club. Ask Jon Mulvey to see what else might currently be available.

#9 I'm better at tennis than everyone else. Are there any intramural tennis tournaments on campus?

Yeah, we hear that a lot. If you're not playing on either of the DePaul varsity tennis teams, chances are we have several people who are better than you. Due to the success of our club, the university did away with intramural tennis. Feel free to come to practice if you're interested in competition. If you're good enough, you'll receive an invite to compete against other schools as a member of our travel team.

#10 I'm a club tennis president from another university. You guys seem quirky. Can we invite you to our tournament?

Yes, but, unless you pay our way, we can't guarantee that we'll make an appearance. We're willing to play anyone (well, mostly anyone), anytime, but, truth be told, we prefer traveling to small schools in the middle of nowhere. Ask Jon Mulvey to see if your event would make the cut.

#11 Who designed your website? Who came up with your logos? Will you design something for me?!

This website was designed by our very own DePaul Club Tennis Head Coach Jon Mulvey, who, in his former life as a captain of industry, owned and operated a successful web design business. Even though he's selective, he will consider all work proposals. Extremely special consideration will be given to those associated with DePaul University and those offering money (especially donations to DePaul Club Tennis).
